Last October, Microsoft introduced its noise-canceling headphones, the Surface Headphones. Apparently, the company isn't done in the audio space though, as it's working on Surface Buds, according to a report from Thurrott's Brad Sams.
The new earbuds are similar to Apple's AirPods, capitalizing on the increasing popularity of truly wireless earbuds. The product is a harder computer science problem to solve than standard Bluetooth headphones, as each earbud is a separate unit and they both need to play the same audio at the same time. A difference in latency of just a few milliseconds can ruin the experience.
The codename for the product is Morrison, likely named after the lead singer of The Doors. One of the focuses of the product will be to improve interactions with your phone, so you can expect things like Cortana integration, or even integration with your phone's native voice assistant. The report said it's meant to improve the experience for reading content on your device.
Not much else is known about Surface Buds at this time. Hopefully, we'll hear more about them later on this year.
