Microsoft shows off its dual-screen Surface Neo, coming late next year

Microsoft announced a few products coming later in 2019 during its event today, but it also finally showed off the long-awaited dual-screen Surface device. Called the Surface Neo, the device is expected to be coming in the holiday season of 2020, so it's still a ways off, but it's pretty exciting nonetheless.

The Surface Neo has two nine inch displays bisected by a 360-degree hinge, which lets you use the device with the two displays side-by-side or only one at a time. Microsoft showcased some capabilities for multi-tasking, with the ability to move apps between the two screens or maximize an app to use them both at the same time.

There's also a keyboard attachment you can add to it, and it's designed to attach to one half of the device. When you open the Neo in a laptop-like posture, you can bring the keyboard over the bottom half of the screen, for an experience somewhat similar to the Zenbook Pro Duo from ASUS. However, it can also be attached to the top half of the bottom screen, making room for a virtual touchpad underneath.

The keyboard magnetically sticks to the shell of the Neo when it's closed, and so does the Surface Slim Pen, which also charges wirelessly while attached to the Surface Neo. You can see more images of the device below.

Microsoft didn't go into detail on the specs of the device, which isn't unexpected given how far away the release is. It will, however, be powered by an Intel Lakefield chipset and running a special version of Windows 10 called Windows 10X. We'll have to wait until next year for more information.
