Windows RT devices will get an update in two weeks to fix a recent issue that caused apps to refuse to update.
Microsoft is preparing a patch for Windows RT that will eliminate problems users have encountered with app updates, according to a new report.
Yesterday, it was reported that Surface users have had problems updating apps following a recent firmware update for Windows RT. As a result of the problem, some users have seen sporadic connectivity to Windows Update and are unable to download app updates from the Windows Store.
The problem will soon be resolved, however, as Mary Jo Foley of ZDNet reports Microsoft will release the patch addressing the issue in two weeks. Foley was provided the following statement from a Microsoft representative regarding the issue:
Some Windows RT customers who attempted to apply January’s bulletins had issues installing updates. Specifically, impacted Windows RT devices went into connected standby mode during the download of updates from Windows Update, causing the connection to be disrupted. We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and are working to correct the issue; we expect to have a fix in place in the first week of February.
The firmware update at the heart of the issue was released Jan. 8, and reports began surfacing about the problem later that week.
