It's been around six weeks since Skype last got an update on Windows Phone, which introduced Cortana integration for WP8.1 users, allowing them to launch voice and video calls simply by asking the digital assistant. Today, the company is rolling out version 2.21 of the app, bringing a range of small but welcome improvements.
The most significant addition is one that many users have been expecting for some time. At long last, users will now be able to send and receive photos within the app, although only with contacts who use an iPhone (with version 5.0 of the app or above) or a Windows Phone 8.x device.
"When you share photos to your contacts who use other platforms," Microsoft explains, "they may receive a URL link to open the pictures. This is the first step: we're working hard to build this new photo sharing experience across all of our platforms, so look out for more improvements over the coming months."
The update also allows you to scroll up in a conversation view to see more of your chat history, as well as using text mark-up - such as asterisks either side of text to make it bold, or underscores at either side to make it italic.
Along with being able to add a contact to your favorites from within a conversation, the app also brings a range of unspecified 'performance improvements'.
