Just five months ago, Microsoft announced that it is rebuilding its in-house Edge browser off of Google's open-source Chromium project. Public previews started less than a month ago, and a number of improvements have already been made.
Today at its Build 2019 developer conference, the firm announced a number of new features that are on their way. One of them is IE mode, which is meant to address compatibility issues that businesses might have. Remember, many businesses do still have web apps that are made specifically for Internet Explorer, and those features haven't been carried over into Edge.
When Microsoft first shipped Edge in Windows 10, it shipped Internet Explorer with it. Now, you should be able to get that functionality from a tab in the new Edge.
There are new privacy controls on the way, which will provide three levels: unrestricted, balanced, and strict. These are meant to decide how third parties will be able to track you on websites that you visit.
There's also a new Collections feature, which is meant to help users to collect, organize, share, and export information in an easy way. Collections also comes with Office 365 integration.
Microsoft didn't share when any of these new features will be made available, but the new Edge still has a ways to go before it's generally available. You can try it out now in the Dev and Canary branches, and the Beta branch is on the way.
