It's been a busy day for Microsoft, as expected from the days of its annual Build developer conference, and there has been no shortage of new announcements regarding Azure, Microsoft 365 and more.
In one of its blog posts today, the company details many improvements coming to Microsoft 365 and also talks about the incoming support for Timeline in its Microsoft Launcher for Android as well as its new Your Phone app.
But a perhaps smaller announcement is made towards the end of the blog post: developers will soon be able to bring Fluent Design to applications built on Win32. This will be possible through something called UWP XAML Islands, which will allow developers to access more XAML controls for their apps:
Now every organization can make beautiful solutions that empower your customers to do more. With UWP XAML Islands, you can access the more capable, flexible, powerful XAML controls regardless which UI stack you use—whether it’s Windows Forms, WPF, or native Win32.
The blog post doesn't go into a great deal of detail about how this feature will work for developers, but it does mention that a full announcement will be coming tomorrow.
Microsoft's Fluent Design System was originally announced last year, and its initial wave of materials has started being added to many parts of Windows as well as many UWP applications from Microsoft and third-parties. With this announcement, we should see the new design language spread out to more apps.
