Microsoft's new 5.7-inch Lumia flagship spotted on AdDuplex, specs reportedly 'confirmed'

Just over a year ago, in June 2014, various details emerged of Microsoft's upcoming Windows Phone plans, and among the various tidbits revealed were two codenames of future devices. These two handsets were said to be new flagships: a large high-end device, known as 'Talkman'; and an even larger phablet, referred to as 'Cityman'.

Eleven months later, in May of this year, both of those codenames suddenly popped up again in a report that claimed to reveal many of both handsets' key specs - and now, they've been tracked on the AdDuplex advertising platform.

Microsoft has focused on entry-level devices in recent months, like the Lumia 640

One of the two handsets - tracked by its model numbers, RM-1104 and RM-1105 - had a 5.2-inch 1080p display, which corresponds with what's previously been reported about Talkman. The second device, RM-1100, had a display of unknown size, but with Quad HD (2560x1440px) resolution; this device is believed to be Cityman.

That Quad HD display lines up with the unconfirmed specs revealed last month for the device. Key specs of the handset are said to include:

  • 5.7-inch QHD display
  • Octa-core Qualcomm processor
  • 3GB RAM
  • 32GB storage (plus microSD card slot)
  • 20MP rear camera
  • 5MP front-facing camera
  • 3300mAh battery
  • USB Type-C connector

Windows Central reports today that it has 'confirmed' via its sources that these specs are accurate, and adds that Cityman's camera will also have a triple-LED flash.

High-end Lumia handsets with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processor have been promised

In February, Microsoft promised that "best in class Lumia smartphones, powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 810 processors" were in development, and this processor seems to be a likely match for the new top Lumia. The company also confirmed this week that it will launch high-end Windows handsets in India later this year.

Both Talkman and Cityman are expected to be launched in the last quarter of 2015 - around October or November - shortly after Microsoft finalizes its RTM build of Windows 10 Mobile in September. Those codenames will, of course, be dropped for production - the handsets are widely expected to be known as the Lumia 940 and Lumia 940 XL when they go on sale.
