Microsoft's new Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID is now available in the US for $129.99

Last month, Microsoft quietly added a new peripheral device to its store in the US: the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID. The new keyboard is remarkably similar in appearance to the Surface Keyboard, but replaces its second Windows key with an embedded fingerprint sensor that supports the Windows Hello biometric authentication system.

Priced at $129.99, the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID can be used either wired or wirelessly - unlike the $99.99 Surface Keyboard, which only supports usage through Bluetooth 4.0.

Unfortunately, the power usage of the fingerprint sensor means that you'll get far shorter battery life on the new keyboard. While the Surface Keyboard promises up to 12 months of usage from its batteries, the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID offers just 4 months - but the good news is that its batteries are rechargeable.

Alongside the Modern Keyboard with Fingerprint ID, Microsoft also listed a new Modern Mouse on its store last month. However, the $49.99 mouse - which is closely related to the identically-priced Surface Mouse - is not yet available to purchase, and is still listed as 'coming soon'.
