Minecraft gets expanded in the new console update

At E3 2017 this year, Microsoft announced a Better Together Update that would be coming soon to Minecraft, which will enable cross-platform play of the game across different devices. Until that update arrives, Mojang keeps working on removing the disparity regarding features between Java and the Bedrock editions.

Minecraft has just received a major update on consoles, adding features of 'World of Color' Java edition update to consoles. Currently rolling out to Xbox and PlayStation, the new update adds llamas, parrots and illagers along with a new UI engine, which, according to Mojang, should boost performance. Switch and Wii U users will receive the update later tonight.

Here's the complete set of new features included in this update:

  • 7 new Achievements/Trophies
  • New UI engine (saving significant memory - which should boost performance!)
  • Llamas
  • Parrots
  • Woodland Mansion
  • Treasure Maps
  • Observer Block
  • Totem of Undying
  • Illagers! Vindicator, Vex and Evoker!
  • ‘Bouncy’ Beds
  • Dyeable beds
  • Option to change Biomes size to match other platforms (since they are smaller on console by default)

On top of that, the update will also pack two new DLCs for console players. The 'Giants Glide track pack' features three new glide challenges with enormous furniture, massive mobs, the second pack called 'Mini Game Heroes skin pack' includes themed textures and skins for competitive team players.

In addition to the above, Mojang states:

...those platforms which won’t support the Better Together Update will continue getting updates even after it lands.

This means that PlayStation players will not be left too far behind after the cross-play update arrives, as Sony had rejected Microsoft's request for the cross-platform version of Minecraft.
