Motorola to make big announcement October 18

October seems to be the month for major new mobile phone product announcements. Last week Apple revealed the iPhone 4S and now Motorola has sent over invites to members of the press for a media event to be held in New York City at noon on Tuesday, October 18. The company has released a teaser trailer for the event which you can check out below.

Speculation has already begun on what Motorola has in store for the folks lucky enough to attend the press event. Some believe it will be a new smartphone, perhaps the one that has been called both the Motorola Spyder and the Droid Razr. Others believe it will be the official reveal of the Xoom 2, the next version of Motorola's Android-powered tablet device that was also leaked out a few weeks ago. The trailer doesn't really give much in the way of hints, so we will may just have to wait for another eight days to find out for sure.

We are still awaiting word on when Samsung and Google will reschedule their planned joint press event that should introduce the first Android 4.0 based smartphone to the world. It was supposed to be held tomorrow but the two companies rescheduled it due to the death of Apple founder Steve Jobs. Finally, Microsoft and Nokia are expected to make some official announcements concerning the first Nokia smartphones with Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 operating system at the Nokia World event. It will be held in London on October 26.
