Netflix adds "Just For Kids" feature to Xbox 360 app

Netflix has had close ties with Microsoft for several years. The web browser version of Netflix's streaming video service used Microsoft's Silverlight and the Xbox 360 was the first place outside the PC and Mac platforms to offer a Netflix streaming video app in 2008.

Today, Netflix announced that it has added a feature to its Xbox 360 app. The new upgrade includes a feature called "Just for Kids." In a post on the Netflix blog, the company said:

With Netflix Just for Kids it's easy for my kids and yours alike to stay in a safe area for their television viewing when using Xbox 360. Parents, you can unleash your kids in this section of Netflix and not worry about titles that could be inappropriate. As always, there are no commercials on Netflix.

The feature was previously added for the web browser version of Netflix, along with the apps made for the Nintendo Wii, the Playstation 3 and the Apple TV set top device.

After a rough 2011 when the company was hit with protests from many of its customers after separating the streaming and mail DVD rental prices, Netflix reported a few weeks ago that it had added a total of over 1 million new subscribers for its video streaming service worldwide in the second quarter of 2012.
