New Need For Speed Most Wanted to be made by Criterion

The new entry in the Need For Speed family of action racing games will get its full reveal in a few days. Today, Electronic Arts went ahead and confirmed not just the title of the game, but also the developer and even offered up the first screenshot from the title.

As we have reported before, the next Need For Speed game will be a new entry in the Most Wanted franchise. The first such game with that title was released in 2005 and focused on street-based racing. Today, EA confirmed, via the Need For Speed Facebook page, that UK-based Criterion Studios will be developing the new Need For Speed game.

Criterion is perhaps best know for making the Burnout series of arcade racing games but in 2010 the developer also released Need For Speed: Hot Pursuit, an open world-based game where the fight to avoid being picked up by "the man" was the main focus.

The Facebook post included the first public screenshot from the game, shown above, which shows a BMW model being chased by a police cruiser. Much more information on the next Need For Speed: Most Wanted game will be revealed on Monday as part of EA's pre-E3 2012 press conference.
