Nexus 6 finally getting Android 7.0 Nougat update; Nexus 9 LTE owners still out of luck

Nexus 6 owners can mark today on their calendars, as the old device is finally getting Android 7.0 Nougat, alongside the October security updates. System images are available on Google’s site and users are reporting that the over the air update has also started rolling out.

Google released Android 7.0 Nougat in late August, starting with some of its own Nexus devices. Unfortunately, some Nexus owners had to wait longer than expected before getting to try out the latest operating system from the big G. Last month Google had announced that Nexus 6 and Nexus 9 LTE devices would be getting Android Nougat “in the coming weeks”, and now finally, that day is here, at least for Nexus 6 enthusiasts. As things currently stand Nexus 9 LTE owners are still out of luck.

This is likely the last operating system update that the two devices will be receiving, given that they’re almost older than the two-year guaranteed update period. It’s also likely this will be the last Android 7.0 update that Google might push out, given that just later today the company will be unveiling two new Pixel devices and Android 7.1 Nougat.
