No Man's Sky Frontiers update brings alien settlements for players to govern

Hello Games is continuing to pump out major updates to its galaxy exploration and adventure game No Man's Sky. The latest is the Frontiers update, a content drop featuring procedurally generated alien settlements in inhabited systems, an overseer system for taking over and developing unique settlements, enhanced visuals, and more.

The generated settlements start of small with only a few buildings scattered about, but players can appeal to the citizens and become an overseer. Afterward, players are able to manage the settlement by building new structures, researching new technologies, setting policies, while also growing the community, defending it from Sentinel, and settling disputes among locals.

As citizens roam the settlement, going about their routines, players can also inspect them to find out their thoughts. The goal with overseeing settlements is to produce a successful settlement with well-educated citizens with high amounts of productivity and happiness, which translate to generous resources for the overseer.

Also, Hello Games have overhauled the base building menu, added 10 more save slots, improved all environmental visual effects – including nebulas, destruction, combat, and more –, brought in the third Expedition "Cartographers", and even added Trading Cards for players on Steam.

No Man's Sky Update 3.6 Frontiers is now available to all players across Steam, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox Game Pass, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Complete patch notes can be found here.
