Nvidia today is launching a top-end premium tier membership for its GeForce Now (GFN) cloud gaming service. Dubbed "GeForce NOW RTX 3080 membership", the new option will bring the power of the RTX 3080 for its users and the service is going to cost $99.99 for six months, which is about double that of what the current Priority membership pack is priced at. It will be available in North America starting in November and in Europe from December. Founders and Priority members can pre-order the RTX 3080 membership now.
With this premium membership, users will get more frames and more resolution, up to 120fps at 1440p resolution on PCs and Macs (1440p for most iMacs and 1600p for most MacBooks). 120Hz gaming is also supported on capable Android devices like the Galaxy S21. On Shield TVs, the visual side is extended up to 4K with HDR, although the framerate is brought back to 60fps. 7.1 channel audio will be also be supported on the Shield.
This seems like a significant leap over what is currently offered with Priority membership that allows 1080p60. The gaming session time is also raised up to eight hours now, up from six in the Priority tier.
Nvidia says that the new RTX 3080 GFN membership is powered by its new "gaming" supercomputers called GeForce Now SuperPODs. Each such SuperPOD is able to power several GFN gamers simultaneously.
In terms of specs, an individual SuperPOD sports:
- >1,000 GPUs producing more than 39 Petaflops of GPU horsepower ("Each instance is 35 teraflops of performance, nearly 3x that of an Xbox Series X")
- Many AMD Threadripper PRO processors
- Lots of DDR4-3200 memory
- PCIe Gen 4 SSDs
