Nvidia releases 399.24 WHQL drivers, optimizing Shadow of the Tomb Raider, Black Ops 4

Nvidia today released its GeForce Game Ready WHQL-certified 399.24 drivers, introducing optimizations for Shadow of the Tomb Raider, the Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Blackout Open Beta, and the launch of Assetto Corsa Competizione as an early access title.

Open Beta for Black Ops 4 Blackout on PC will begin on 15 September, while Shadow of the Tomb Raider is set to release in four days on 14 September. Assetto Corsa Competizione, meanwhile, is set to be available on Steam on 12 September. It's worth noting that the latter two titles are also among the first few titles utilizing Nvidia's new RTX ray-traced reflections technology, though the new GPUs are yet to release.

As this driver mostly focuses on making sure that these upcoming titles run optimally, the list of fixed issues contains only two items:

  • [3D games]: Game performance drops in half when moving from 16 core/32 thread CPU to 32 core/64 thread CPU. [2334312]
  • NVIDIA graphics driver may not install correctly on certain Core 2 Duo/Quad systems. [2312325]

There are, however, quite a few known issues:

Windows 10 Issues

  • [GeForce GTX 1060]AV receiver switches to 2-channel stereo mode after 5 seconds of audio idle. [2204857]
  • [Firefox]: Cursor shows brief corruption when hovering on certain links in Firefox. [2107201]
  • Random DPC watchdog violation errors occur when using multiple GPUs on motherboards with PLX chips. [2079538]
  • Using power monitoring in GPU monitor tools causes micro stutter. [2110289/2049879]

As mentioned, one of the issues fixed relate to all 3D games running on systems with 32 cores and 64 threads, bringing great news for gamers with AMD's Ryzen Threadripper CPUs, as they could see - from the sound of it, drastic - improvements in gaming performance.

The 399.24 WHQL-certified drivers can be downloaded via the GeForce Experience app on Windows, or via the links down below. The complete release notes are available here.
