Nvidia releases 417.01 WHQL driver, optimizing Darksiders III and fixing 4K refresh rate bug

Just about keeping up with its usual schedule, Nvidia today released its GeForce Game Ready WHQL-certified 417.01 drivers, bringing optimizations for Darksiders III, which will be releasing tomorrow.

Additionally, these drivers pack the latest update to GeForce Experience with them, bringing the version number to 3.16.0.122. If you happen to encounter any issues with the software, there's a thread on the Nvidia forums where you may provide your feedback.

Here are all the bug fixes tagging along with this update:

  • Monitor refresh rates higher than 30 Hz cannot be applied on 4k monitors. [2423614]
  • Frame Rate Limiter 2 may not work. [2423316]  [Turing GPUs]: Event ID 14 error may occur if CSM is disabled in the system BIOS. [2434721]
  • [GeForce TX 650]: Shadowplay recordings are corrupted. [2416982]
  • [G-Sync]: G-sync may not disengage after exiting games. [2418574]
  • [GeForce Experience][Ansel]: Ansel images appear incomplete when the resolution is set to 30x or greater. [2082395]

There are, however, a fair bunch of known issues as well. A few of these come with a workaround, which we have highlighted:

Windows 10 Issues

  • [GeForce GTX 1080Ti]: Random DPC watchdog violation error when using multiple GPUs on motherboards with PLX chips. [2079538]
  • [Firefox]: Cursor shows brief corruption when hovering on certain links in Firefox. [2107201]
  • Display corruption may occur on higher refresh rate DisplayPort monitors upon resume from sleep mode. [2438988]
  • [G-Sync]: Random flickering occurs when connecting G-sync monitor + non-G-Sync HDMI monitor with G-Sync enabled. [2399845]

Additional Issues

  • 2079538 - Random DPC watchdog violation error when using multiple GPUs on motherboards with LX chips
  • 2107201-Cursor shows brief corruption when hovering on certain links in Firefox/Steam
  • 200351146-Tom Clancy's The Division: Flicker/corruption in DirectX 12 mode
  • 2438988-Occasional display corruption on higher refresh rate DisplayPort monitors when coming out of sleep
  • 2438363-RTX 2080 Ti: Hellblade Senua's Sacrifice app crash
  • 2449346-The Witcher 3 will BSOD with Bad Spooler error randomly during gameplay

There is one additionally known issue for those using dual monitors, where one is non-Gsync and the other is Gsync-compatible. In this configuration, users have reported random flickering. Nvidia says it has been unable to reproduce the bug, thus it is asking users for help.

If you experience this issue, you may send an email to driverfeedback@nvidia.com with responses for these questions:

  1. What graphics card make and model do you have?
  2. What is the make and model of your two displays? What refresh rate is each display running at on the desktop?
  3. Do you get the random flicker on your desktop only or in games as well?
  4. If you close all your open windows/apps and leave the PC idle, do you still get flicker on your monitor?
  5. Does setting the Power Management Mode to "Prefer Maximum Performance make any difference in the frequency of the flicker?
  6. Can you share a video of the flicker (update to YouTube and share the link to view the video)
  7. If you are located in the Bay Area (California) near our Santa Clara corporate office and wouldn't mind bringing in your system and displays that shows the issue so that we can collect logs, please contact at driverfeedback@nvidia.com
  8. Does the flicker appear only on the G-sync monitor or both monitors?

    For more advanced users:
  9. It would really help root cause the issue if we could collect crash dump logs from users. Users will need to manually force a system crash with your keyboard as described in the FAQ below:

In addition, this update adds or updates the SLI profile for Artifact. The 417.01 WHQL-certified drivers can be downloaded via the GeForce Experience app on Windows, or via the links down below. The complete release notes are available here.
