Two weeks ago, Microsoft released an Office Insider build for Macs, finally introducing Touch Bar support for Outlook. Today, the company announced that the feature is generally available, along with Add-ins for the email and calendar application.
The Touch Bar - which was introduced by Apple as a feature on its new line of MacBook Pro devices - will provide users quick access to their "most commonly used commands as you work on email and manage your calendar." For example, you'll see common formatting options when writing a new email or meeting request. You can also use it to switch between different views on your calendar, and so on.
But if you don't have the new MacBook Pro, you're going to be more interested in Add-ins. Microsoft first announced that the feature was coming to Office for Mac back in March of last year at its Build developer conference, and they'll be available to customers that have Exchange 2013 Service Pack 1 or higher, or Office 365 or Outlook.com mailboxes.
Add-ins add third-party functionality to Outlook, and there are already Add-ins available from Dynamics 365, Nimble, Evernote, Trello, Microsoft Translator, Smartsheet, Boomerang, Starbucks, GIPHY, and more. You can access them by clicking on the Store icon in the Outlook ribbon, and once you install them, they'll be available across Windows, Mac, iOS, and Outlook.com.
