Today the Office team announced that the Outlook app for Android is officially out of preview. With the dropping of the 'preview' tag comes some minor changes and UI refinements. The Outlook app has undergone some major changes after Microsoft bought Acompli and rebranded its app to broaden their influence in the mobile space. The app has been updated 17 times since they first released the preview (more than one preview per a week for those keeping track). They recapped on several of the features that were added in the last update which you can check out below:
- IMAP support: Support for email services that use the older style IMAP protocol.
- Improved People section: New unified view that lets you call, email, or get directions to contacts in a single location.
- Directory search: Integrates with a company's Global Address list to find people not in your contacts.
- Three day view: Turn you device on its side and see three days simultaneously.
- Gesture Customizations: Change what action occurs when you swipe from the left or right in addition to the default folder for the Archive action.
- Trash Options: A top request, a user can now delete items from the deleted folder.
As you can see, they have added a ton of new features in the past several weeks and we are glad to see that the app is 100 percent ready for primetime. The Office team promises that they will continue to ship new experiences every couple of weeks, prioritizing the features that receive the most feedback. You can get more details on their blog page.
