Phantom Dust is now free for Xbox One and Windows 10, with Xbox Play Anywhere support

Phantom Dust, the classic Xbox game from 2005, has now received a re-release for Xbox One and Windows 10 for the low, low price of completely free. Although not a remaster, Microsoft has included several improvements for the re-release, such as improved frame rates, Xbox Live integration, 45 new achievements, 16:9 widescreen support and more.

The game offers a full single-player campaign that takes place in a post-apocalyptic future, as well as a multiplayer mode where up to four players can battle it out in various arenas, using hundreds of available skills.

Featuring a unique combination of action-RPG and collectible card game aspects, the game has quite a fan following. The game's Creative Director, Adam Isgreen, gives a quick rundown of its gameplay mechanics in the video above, and the game description taken from its store page is as follows:

Phantom Dust is a blend of third-person arena combat and collectable card game. Collect 300 unique skills and build your arsenal of powers, taking them into battle online with up to three other players. You’ll compete in highly-destructible arenas and unleash a wide array of powers and tactics to defeat your enemies, including orbital particle cannons, flaming swords, barriers of ice, flight, cloaking, attack reflection, and many other abilities.

Thanks to the game being an Xbox Play Anywhere title, it supports cross-platform multiplayer between Xbox One and Windows 10 players. Moreover, for users that own both platforms, all progress and achievements are shared between the two for easy switching.

Phantom Dust is now available for download via the Microsoft Store here, and for anyone interested in jumping straight into multiplayer, be sure to grab the free Multiplayer Starter Pack DLC from the store as well.
