Porn company Vivid sends cease and desist letter to HTC

Earlier this month, AT&T launched the HTC Vivid, an Android-based smartphone that is also one of the first such phones that will work on AT&T's small but fast LTE wireless network. It was a typical smartphone launch for a smartphone with some above average features. But we suspect nothing prepared HTC for what happened after the phone launched.

As some of you might know, there is a well known adult video production company called Vivid Entertainment. The business has been in operation since 1984 and besides its own fictional productions it has offered the famous sex tapes of celebrities like Pamela Anderson and Kim Kardashian for sale.

This week, TMZ reported that Vivid Entertainment sent a cease and desist letter to HTC, claiming that the HTC Vivid violated the trademarks of the video company. It claims that some people might think that Vivid might have something to do with HTC's latest smartphone. It has requested that HTC change the name of the phone by Monday or it will file a lawsuit against the smartphone maker.

The Verge confirmed with HTC that the company is "reviewing the complaint" from Vivid Entertainment but added that it doesn't "expect to have any further comment until it is resolved." In the meantime, people who have already bought the HTC Vivid might want to hang onto them for a while. it's possible that they could become collectors items if Vivid Entertainment has its way with HTC (no, not in that way).
