Possible extra features for Windows 8 VLC app revealed

On Sunday, the Kickstarter fundraising campaign for making a VLC app for Windows 8 exceeded its £40,000 goal. The app will also be developed for Windows RT and Windows Phone 8. With four days to go before the campaign officially ends, the team at VideoLAN have offered some extra features that might find its way into the Windows 8 version of VLC.

In a new update on its Kickstarter page, VideoLAN says that as long as some development money is left, they will work to put in new features after the first release of the Windows 8 VLC app, such as camera support. VideoLAN says, "This allows you to record anything your connected cameras can see and to stream it live where ever you like."

Another possible extra feature is DLNA client and server integration, which should allow Windows RT tablets and Windows Phone 8 smartphones to stream media from DLNA servers. The team also hopes to put in "integration with locally attached devices for media playback and synchronization" along with some kind of Xbox SmartGlass support, which would likely allow VLC content to be streamed to the Xbox 360 console.

Finally, the team thanked its backers for allowing the VLC Windows 8 project to reach its goal, saying, "We are looking forward to go all-in on this project!"
