Producer Motohiro Okubo dishes more details about Soulcalibur VI

It was during The Game Awards a couple days ago that we learned that a new Soulcalibur was going to the Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. While the footage of the game was very brief in the early trailer, it looks like at the PlayStation Experience event, the game's producer took some time to dive into the details of Soulcalibur VI.

Next year will be the 20th anniversary of the Soulcalibur series which originally hit arcades back in 1998. The series was originally birthed as Soul Edge but was changed in the subsequent sequels. Speaking with producer Motohiro Okubo, the in-house team, working on the game dubbed Project Soul, wanted to create something special.

Okubo revealed a wide range of details like the teams focus on lighting, how there is healthy sibling rivalry with the in-house Tekken development team, and the introduction of the Reversal Edge mechanic, which aims to bring more feeling to the game, by slowing down the action in intense moments, giving players an opportunity to perform counters and other moves. Okubo went on to say that the game will feel familiar to those who have played past titles, and there will be enough new elements to still keep things fresh.

Unfortunately, a more detailed time frame wasn't provided, with Okubo stating that it is slated for sometime in 2018.
