PSP Sales in 60% Increase

The recent price drop in Europe for the PSP has seen a 60% increase in sales according to Sony, who declined to reveal actual sales of its handheld console. The price of the PSP dropped £20 on May 4th, and now retails for £130, making it just £20 more expensive than the Nintendo DS. Some online retailers are selling the console £10 lower at £120.

"The price realignment was about passing on manufacturing cost savings to customers. This new price point opens up a new wave of consumers to the PSP experience," said Sony's sales director Andrew Howsen, speaking in the strange language of sales directors to industry publication MCV.

With high profile releases over the past few weeks and in coming months Sony is expecting continued retail performance throughout the year.
