Report: Windows Store now has over 5,000 Windows 8 apps

Microsoft is still not talking at all about the numbers of apps in the Windows Store made for Windows 8 and/or Windows RT but that has not stopped other sites from counting up the number of apps available. One of them is WinAppUpdate who posted this updated Windows Store app numbers (below) via his Twitter account.

Wes Miller, the Research VP at the third party analyst company Directions on Microsoft, writes that, worldwide, there are now 5,563 Windows 8 apps in the store. 87 percent of those apps are free and 94 percent of the apps made for the x86 version of Windows 8 can also run on Windows RT.

Last week, WinAppUpdate posted that there were 4,326 apps in the Windows Store, which means that the number of apps jumped up by over 1,000 in just a week's time. The current number of apps made for the US version of Windows 8 and RT stands at 3,488, and there are currently a total of 2,626 developers who have Windows 8 or RT apps in the store.

With Windows 8 launching late next week, we could see an even bigger boost in Windows 8 apps in the store in the next few days.
