Resident Evil 7 Biohazard released earlier this year to critical acclaim, successfully returning the series to its survival horror roots, while also being the first Resident Evil title to be in the first person perspective.
Following the game's release, Capcom launched two paid DLC packs going by the names of Banned Footage Vol. 1 and Vol. 2. A free expansion titled Not a Hero was also announced, and set for a spring release. The expansion was confirmed to include Chris Redfield as the main protagonist, a fan favorite character from previous games.
However, the official Resident Evil YouTube channel has released a new video, seen below, with the game's Producer Masachicka Kawata and Game Director Koshi Nakanishi stating that the free expansion will be delayed (enable captions for English subtitles):
In the video, the duo elaborates on the reasoning behind this delay, voicing that the expansion's development was almost completed, but they did not think it met the quality standard set by the base game.
The result was a decision to allocate more time for its development, and delay the release, with Nakanishi saying "Rest assured, we'll use this time to create something our fans will love, so we hope you understand".
The game's Executive Producer, Jun Takeuchi, makes an appearance later in the video. In addition to reaffirming the expansion's delay, he also reveals that another piece of Resident Evil 7 DLC is being developed, but doesn't divulge any more information about the subject.
For now, neither the Not a Hero expansion, nor the game's unannounced DLC appear to have official release dates.
