RTX updates head to Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, and more

Nvidia RTX-enabled games and applications

The GeForce RTX lineup of Nvidia expanded today with the 3080 Ti and 3070 Ti announcements at Computex 2021. Alongside those reveals, the company also announced eight more games receiving RTX updates soon, including Doom Eternal, Red Dead Redemption 2, and Rainbow Six Siege and several upcoming experiences.

Doom Eternal is gaining both ray tracing and Deep Learning Super Sampling (DLSS) technologies with an upcoming update in June. The id Tech-powered shooter is already known for its impressive performance numbers – which will only increase with DLSS – and it will tout ray-traced reflections once the update lands. id Software studio director Marty Stratton had this to say regarding the additions:

“DOOM Eternal was built to deliver the very best in engaging first-person-shooter gameplay, stunning visuals and uncompromising performance. With the addition of ray tracing to idTech and support for NVIDIA DLSS, we’re pushing the engine in exciting new ways and we can’t wait for GeForce RTX gamers to experience it.”

Unfortunately, Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption 2 and Ubisoft's Rainbow Six Siege aren't in the ray tracing-enabled group but will soon be gaining DLSS support for increased performance. Details about these game updates and their launch dates will be shared later by Nvidia.

Also gaining ray tracing and DLSS support are the upcoming games Icarus, LEGO Builder's Journey, DYING: 1983, The Ascent, and The Persistence. More information about these releases can be seen here.

Today's announcements bring the number of games and applications supporting RTX technologies of Nvidia to over 130. AMD will soon have an answer for DLSS though, as the company also announced today the long awaited FidelityFX Super Resolution technology's launch date.
