Samsung announces new budget Chromebooks with narrow bezels

Samsung announced the Chromebook 4 and Chromebook 4+ today. The new PCs are meant to provide value for their low costs, which are $229.99 and $299.99, respectively. The 11.6- and 15.6-inch Chromebooks come in a Platinum Titan color, and Samsung says that they've passed eight military-grade tests for durability.

"The Samsung Chromebook 4 line is a testament to what can be achieved when you’re focused on pushing the boundaries of convenience and value for computers," said Alanna Cotton, Senior Vice President and General Manager at Samsung Electronics America. "Given the tremendous response to the Chromebook 3, we worked hard to maintain the features our consumers loved, while still making great strides in design, performance, and user experience with the Chromebook 4 and 4+."

They're both powered by Intel Celeron N4000 CPUs, and come with either 4GB or 6GB RAM, and either 32GB or 64GB of on-board storage. They're meant to be thin and light, where the Chromebook 4 comes in at 2.6 pounds, and the larger Chromebook 4+ comes in at 3.75 pounds. They also have narrow bezels, something that's somewhat rare at this price point.

And of course, they come with the Google Play Store, running the Android apps that users know and love. They also have Google Assistant built-in, which you can control with your voice via built-in microphones.

They both have USB Type-C ports (one on the Chromebook 4 and two on the 4+), one USB 3.0 Type-A port, microSD, and a headphone jack. You can purchase them starting today at Bestbuy.com and Samsung.com. You can find the Chromebook 4 here and the Chromebook 4+ here.
