Samsung announces the rugged Galaxy XCover 4

Amid anticipation of the reveal of the hotly anticipated Galaxy S8, Samsung has announced another Android smartphone: the Galaxy XCover 4.

As the successor to the rugged Galaxy XCover 3, Samsung claims the Galaxy XCover 4 has a "hard shell" and a "smart core". The handset features a 4.99 inch TFT HD screen, and is powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core processor. The Galaxy XCover 4 has double the storage space of its predecessor, with 16GB of internal storage which can be expanded with a micro-SD card. The device will ship with Android 7.0 Nougat.

In terms of toughness, the Galaxy XCover 4 has the IP68 rating, meaning that it is water resistant to a maximum depth of 1.5 metres for up to 30 minutes. This rating also means that the XCover 4 is protected against dust, dirt and sand. In addition to this rating, the XCover 4 is also certified by the US Military standard MIL-STD 810G. This means that the device is capable of withstanding harsh conditions such as extreme weather, mechanical shocks and vibrations, and intense solar radiation.
