Samsung Pay is now available to customers in Mexico

Samsung has announced that it is launching Samsung Pay in Mexico and it's available right now. It’s the 20th market to receive Samsung Pay, and the second Latin American country to receive the service. Samsung says that users with compatible devices will be able to make purchases with Samsung Pay at almost all shops across the country that accept credit, debit, or loyalty cards.

Claudia Contreras, Marketing Director of Samsung Electronics Mexico, said:

“We are excited to expand Samsung Pay across Latin America and are confident that our customers in Mexico will embrace the ability to easily pay and earn rewards through the convenience of their smartphones. We will continue working to forge alliances with additional partner institutions that our customer care about to reach even more users and help drive the growth of the digital economy.”

As alluded to earlier, Samsung Pay is only compatible with certain devices, they consist of the Galaxy Note8, Galaxy S8 and S8+, Galaxy S7 and S7 edge, Galaxy S6 edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy A8 and A8+ (2018), Galaxy A5 (2016 and 2017), Galaxy A7 (2016 and 2017), Galaxy A9 (2016), Galaxy A3 (2017), Galaxy J5 Pro and Galaxy J7 Pro.

Samsung’s payment system has three levels of security in order to protect users against malicious use. The first layer is biometric authentication through fingerprint or iris recognition; tokenization, a system that generates virtual information for every transaction rather than storing financial information on the device; and integration with Samsung’s security platform, Knox, which monitors the device in real time to protect against suspicious use.

Samsung Pay was announced as coming to Mexico last November, however, you had to register to become involved, now anyone with an eligible Samsung device and Samsung Pay set up can use the service in the country - think of this as the full launch of the service.
