Samsung says (again) it doesn't want HP's PC division

Did you ever have one of those days when you say something to someone and that someone didn't believe you? That's what's happening with Samsung at the moment. The consumer electronics company was considered to be the top pick to buy out HP's PC division. But on Wednesday, the company issued a statement on its official blog site, saying flat out, "The recent rumors that Samsung Electronics will be taking over Hewlett-Packard Co.'s personal computer business are not true. We hope this clarifies any confusion that may have occurred."

But that wasn't enough for all the Internet rumor mongers who still believed that Samsung might be interested in acquiring HP's PC business, which is still the number one maker of PCs in the world. So, according to AllThingsD.com, Samsung issued a direct statement today from its CEO and Vice Chairman Geosung Choi.

Choi's pretty blunt statement is as follows: "To put to rest any speculation on this issue, I would like to definitively state that Samsung Electronics will not acquire Hewlett-Packard’s PC business. Hewlett-Packard is the global leader in the PC business with sales of 40 million units last year, while Samsung is an emerging player in the category and sold about 10 million units in 2010. Based on the significant disparity in scale with Samsung’s own PC business and the complete lack of synergies, it would be both infeasible and imprudent to even consider such an acquisition."

With Samsung now completely and totally out of the running, other companies like Acer, Lenovo and Dell might still be interested in grabbing HP's PC business for themselves.
