Samsung sold four times more foldable devices in 2021 than it did last year

In a bit of a celebratory post towards the end of the year, Samsung has revealed some interesting statistics around its hardware efforts for the year 2021.The South Korean tech giant has stated that it sold four times more foldable devices this year than it did in the previous year, headlined by the success of the Z series.

This year, Samsung launched the Z Fold3 and the Z Flip 3, which helped it surpass analyst projections of a threefold increase. In fact, the company has noted that one month after the launch of the aforementioned hardware, the two handsets exceeded the cumulative sales of Samsung's foldable devices in 2020. The tech firm expects this growth to continue with the foldable market growing tenfold in by 2023.

Although Samsung didn't dive into detailed figures, it did note that there were increases of 150% and 140%, respectively, for customers who switched to the Z Flip3 as compared to the Galaxy Note20 and Galaxy S21. The company's internal survey has revealed that consumers switched to its foldable devices for a number of reasons including the form factor, increased productivity capabilities, larger screen estate, and more.

Moving forward, Samsung says that it will continue to invest in the R&D of foldables and will continue collaborating with app developers and partners such as Google so that software can take advantage of the latest hardware innovations.
