Samsung has announced that its SmartThing Find service now has 100 million nodes attached less than one year since it launched. According to the Korean firm, 230,000 lost devices are located through this feature each day. Many devices can be located using this service including Galaxy smartphones, smartwatches, earbuds, S Pen Pros, and items like keys or wallets with an attached Galaxy SmartTag.
Commenting on the growth of devices registered to the service, TM Roh, President and Head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, said:
“We’re incredibly proud of how quickly the SmartThings Find service has grown in less than a year, helping people all over the world locate hundreds of thousands of misplaced devices every day. SmartThings Find is yet another example of how Samsung is continuing to create meaningful new experiences that help make life more convenient and less stressful.”
Unlike services such as Find My on the iPhone, SmartThings Find uses Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and ultra-wideband (UWB) technology to find devices. The main advantage of this method is that devices can be located even if they’re offline.
Marking the latest 100 million devices milestone, Samsung pointed to a new feature called SmartThings Find Members which allows users to add their friends and family to their SmartThings account so they can find and manage their devices too. These groups can consist of a total of 20 people including the admin and 200 devices can be connected. Once an invitee joins your group, you can grant permission to them to see your connected devices.
