Sea of Thieves 'Arena' competitive game mode announced for early 2019

Rare's pirate-adventure title Sea of Thieves is adding a separate game mode targeted at players looking for faster and more action-packed sessions. Titled Arena, the mode will be completely separate from the base game mode, where players will be selecting which one to load into from the get-go: Adventure or Arena.

The announcement came during Microsoft's X018 stream, and although not much information was shared during the reveal, a brand new trailer was shown off, seen above. It appears multiple crews of players will be restricted to a smaller area of the main Sea of Thieves map, where they will be hunting for treasure while also fighting each other.

This competitive treasure hunting mode doesn't have a release date just yet, but will be released sometime in early 2019 as a free game mode for all players on Xbox One and Windows 10.

Meanwhile, further information about the November major content update to the game, Shrouded Spoils, will be shared tomorrow during a Rare panel at X018.
