Self-proclaimed MPC World Record Holder is a Fraud

Shayan Akhtar, a student from Okara, recently claimed that he had set a new world record by scoring 998 marks out of total 1,000 in a Microsoft Professional Certificate programme.

Shayan had claimed that Bill Gates had invited him for meeting which was scheduled for July 2012 – and has now been proven to be completely untrue. Shayan is accused of fabricating facts and communication records to gain popularity for reasons not known to Microsoft.

The forged invite read:

We’ve just contacted Shayan Anique to confirm his Bill Gates Invitation. He is invited by Mr Gates to visit Microsoft Corporation in November because of the work he had done in the field of Microsoft Technologies like ASP.NET, MVC, .NET FRAMEWORK and WINDOWS PHONE.

He is also a youngest MCPD in Windows Phone and Web Development 4. Although we have sent his world Records Documents for Verification to Guinness. We have also verified his MCP Transcript from Microsoft. It is totally valid.

We will inform you as soon as we receive reply from Guinness.

Your’s Sincerely,

Microsoft officials also explained that the company does not keep track of ages for its certified professionals anymore – so there’s no point of users claiming they’re the youngest or oldest certified professional.

The student also claimed that his name will appear in next publication of the Guinness Book of World Records for his extraordinary achievement. He was under the impression that his certification (in November 2011) was a recent record which was why his name wasn’t (and still isn’t) appearing in online searches for world records on the Guinness website.

The Punjab government was also considering honouring Shayan by throwing a ceremony for him which of course, isn’t happening now. It is unknown whether Microsoft will take legal action regarding the fabrication of Microsoft personnel and misleading the public, but one thing we do know is that it must suck to be Shayan right about now.
