SoftMaker Office 2018 for Linux reaches beta stage

The German software developer, SoftMaker, has announced the public beta release of its SoftMaker Office 2018 for Linux package. The Linux release comes hot on the heels of the Windows version of the suite which launch just a few weeks ago. Users can expect a re-designed interface which allows users to work with classic menus or ribbons. The company also touts seamless compatibility with Microsoft Office.

SoftMaker Office is a relatively unknown player in the office suite market but it does boast support for Microsoft Office files so the two should work well together. Included in the suite is the word processor TextMaker 2018, the spreadsheet applications PlanMaker 2018, the presentation application Presentations 2018, and exclusive add-ons for the popular open source email client Thunderbird.

SoftMaker Managing Director, Martin Kotulla, said:

“With SoftMaker Office 2018, we are raising the bar in terms of compatibility, user-friendliness and functionality. Everyone is invited to take a look at the free beta version for Linux - We are looking forward to the feedback from the Linux community.”

SoftMaker Office 2018 is available in 32-bit and 64-bit versions. Users on 64-bit systems benefit from the fact that SoftMaker Office 2018 can now be installed without the need to install additional compatibility libraries. The beta version is free to use and can be obtained from the source link below the article, however, once it’s available in its final form the license costs $99.95 for the Professional edition and $69.95 for the Standard edition.
