Sony to join Windows Phone 8.1 party with Lue Z? [Update]

Another blurfest!

Evleaks is back with another cautiously worded leak via a tipster, this time indicating that Sony could make good on it's suggestion that they may offer Windows Phone variants, alongside its popular Android-powered Xperia models.

The image up top is comically blurry, as we've come to expect from various leakers, but it does clearly show a Sony device running Windows Phone 8.1, with onscreen button controls (which is supported in Windows Phone 8.1), or at least they look close enough to the screen to suggest they're not capacitive buttons, and if the size of the onscreen tiles is anything to go by, it won't be a 5-inch+ monster either.

Of course we'll have to take this with a pinch of salt, as are Evleaks if their title is anything to go by, which is: "Sony Lue Z Windows Phone 8.1? [via tip, from a tipster I barely know -- no guarantees here]

However, back in February, Sony CEO Kazuo Hirai hinted at entering the Windows Phone market with the following statement "Microsoft has various OSes, including mobile. So, as Sony, we will consider new product development going forward." Hirai's comment is similar to one made a few weeks ago by Pierre Perron, who heads Sony Mobile Europe. He stated, "We are continuing our discussions with other partners, including Microsoft, as part of our partnership with this company on the broader Sony spectrum."

So there may be a glimmer of hope for Sony fans to enjoy the excellent build quality of the Xperia line, while enjoying Windows Phone 8.1 on it.

Only time will tell.

Update: Evleaks has pulled his article calling it fake, ah well.. Seems they can't catch a break lately!
