Just over a week ago we reported that Windows Phone 8 would get it's first major update in the first quarter of 2013 and that the update would be codenamed: Apollo+.
Now, according to WPCentral citing a "known and trusted source" this update is now being referred to not as Apollo+ but as ‘Portico’.
The source also claimed that the update will bring minor fixes and speed enhancements and isn't actually considered to be a milestone release. The site also points out that the codename keeps the tradition of ending in "o" NoDo (7.x), Mango (7.5), Tango (7.5 Refresh) and Apollo (8.0), and despite the meaning of Portico (extension on a house) although maybe fitting for a codename, maybe we shouldn't read too much into it, especially if we're looking at the previous codenames.
Furthermore as reported over a week ago, The Verge suggests that features in Portico may include fixes to allow always-on wifi connections, VPN support and unspecified "audio improvements", which all sounds like common sense to us. They additionally report that the new update will get its first official reveal by Microsoft at MWC in February.
As always despite the confidence vote over at WPCentral (a 9 out of 10), until Microsoft confirm anything, take any and all third party info with a pinch of salt.
