Spotify likely to start working on its first hardware product soon

Earlier last year, Spotify posted a job listing on its website that sought a Senior Product Manager for hardware, indicating the company's intention to expand into the hardware segment. However, the job listing was deleted shortly after it had surfaced on the company's website. Now the music streaming service seems to be rekindling its hardware ambitions as new recruitment posts suggest Spotify is looking to fill positions for that division.

The job listings specifically seek Project Manager, Senior Project Manager, and an Operations Manager who will all be responsible for the company's hardware production. According to one job description, Spotify is on track to create "its first physical products and setting up an operational organization for manufacturing, supply chain, sales & marketing."

Spotify's job listings also describe the responsibilities of the successful candidates for the job, including aiding in the development of novel Spotify experiences via connected hardware. Successful job applications will be working from Spotify's office in Stockholm, Sweden.

Spotify's previous job listings for those positions clearly stated that successful candidates would lead the company's efforts to deliver a "category-defining product akin to Pebble Watch, Amazon Echo, and Snap Spectacles" directly to existing and new customers. There's no word, however, in its most recent job posts on what specific types of products the company intends to produce. It's possible, though, that Spotify is planning to build its own smart speaker that can work without relying on its app.
