Spotify's numbers are up from the previous year; now with 87 million subscribers

Today, Spotify shared its quarterly report and it comes as no surprise that the streaming music service is growing. The firm now has 87 million subscribers, which is up 40 percent from the previous year.

Spotify has been making constant changes and improvements to its service throughout the year, as competition from the likes of Apple Music become more fierce. Despite this, the firm has done well so far, with 191 million active users every month, which is up by 28 percent from the previous year. The service is now available in 65 markets and has also paid out €10 billion to music rights holders.

Although this is all good news for Spotify, it will be interesting to see just how many subscribers Apple Music has accrued in the same period, because despite having a later start, it was last reported that the service surpassed Spotify's paid subscriber count. There are plenty of choices when it comes to streaming music services, but currently, Spotify has a new promotion that will gift a Google Home Mini to those that subscribe to a family plan.
