Apple is rumored to be holding its annual press event to announce the next iPhone on September 12th, with the actual launch happening on September 21st. While Apple has yet to confirm or deny this rumor, it looks like at least one smartphone carrier is preparing for the next iPhone launch by cutting the prices of the current version, the iPhone 4S.
Sprint's website now shows that the three versions of the iPhone have all been reduced in price by $50 (with a two year contract with Sprint). That means the 16 GB version is just $149, the 32 GB version is $249 and the 64 GB version is now $349. In addition, Sprint is waving their normal $36 one time activation fee for the iPhone 4S if customers purchase the device via their website.
So far, neither Verizon nor AT&T have matched Sprint's iPhone price drop. However, the fact that Sprint is cutting the price of the iPhone 4S could be a big hint that the wireless provider is trying to get rid of some of its iPhone inventory before the launch of the next iPhone.
In addition to the next iPhone, there are lots of rumors that claim Apple will also introduce a seven inch version of its iPad tablet on September 12th.
