Surface Studio, Book, and Pro 4 all get firmware and driver updates

Microsoft released a number of firmware and driver updates for a number of its Surface devices today, and those are on top of the ones that came for the Surface Pro with Advanced LTE yesterday. Today's updates are for the Surface Studio, Book, and Pro 4.

The Surface Studio got the smallest list of changes. Here's what's new:

Intel – System – 11.7.0.1040

Intel(R) Management Engine Interface – System device

  • 11.7.0.1040 required for UEFI update, and improves recovery from Connected Standby.


Security bulletin 170012 refers to a vulnerability in TPM that could allow Security Feature Bypass. According to Microsoft's Value Indicator chart, these updates improve security, reliability, and battery life (yes, battery life, on an all-in-one), and has no effect on connectivity, compatibility, or performance.

The Surface Book got a broader range of drivers and firmware. Here's what's new:

  • 6.0.1.8242 improves Cortana speech recognition.
Microsoft – Storage -11.0.0.1

Surface NVM Express Controller – Storage Controllers

  • 11.0.0.1 improves storage performance.
Surface – System – 2.27.136.0

Surface DTX – System devices

  • 2.27.136.0 improves system stability.


According to the Value Indicator chart, these updates improve reliability, connectivity, compatibility, and performance, with no effect on security or battery life. You can manually download the package here.

Of course, you don't have to install any of these manually. You can just head over to Settings -> Update & security -> Windows Update -> Check for updates.
