There is without a doubt, that the past couple of days have been hectic for Samsung. But the same applies to all the carriers and retailers that partnered with the device manufacturer to offer the Galaxy Note7. While Samsung states that only a small number of cases of the incident have been reported, the company surely thinks that the small number is enough to warrant a recall. While Samsung has now outlined its plans for the recall in the US, carriers are also offering their solutions as well.
T-Mobile is offerings its customers the ability to return the device for a full refund, without restocking and shipping fees. Furthermore, customers will still be able to keep the promotional items (Netflix subscription, Gear Fit 2 or 256GB microSD) that they received with their order.
Below is an excerpt from the T-Mobile press release:
As we announced earlier this morning, customers can return the Note7 to T-Mobile for a full, complete refund of anything paid for the device and any Note7 accessories. We’ll waive any restocking charges and shipping fees, and customers can keep the free Netflix subscription and Gear Fit or SD card they received with purchase during pre-order. Customers have the option to use their refund to choose any device in T-Moble’s stores.
As soon as we have inventory from Samsung, customers can exchange their current Galaxy Note7 for a new Galaxy Note7, and we will notify customers as soon as we have inventory available.
Naturally, when it comes down to it, it's about making sure the customer is safe and not inconvenienced, and it looks like both Samsung and T-Mobile understand the importance of that.
