The Linux Mint 18.x series has now reached end of life. Users are urged to back up their data and perform a clean install of Linux Mint 20.1. Linux Mint's Backup Tool allows you to back up easily.

The team behind Linux Mint has put out a new blog post informing users how they can patch their software in order to fend off any attacks which utilise Spectre or Meltdown. A kernel patch is coming.
Systems running Linux Mint 18 or Linux Mint 18.1 can now be upgraded to Linux Mint 18.2. Systems running one of the older releases in this series can still get security updates until 2021.
Linux Mint 18.2 has been released. The Cinnamon, MATE, KDE, and Xfce editions are now available for download from the Linux Mint website but upgrade paths from older releases are not yet ready.
