The official Assassin's Creed movie trailer is live

Video game franchises turned to movies is undoubtedly a heavily-desired frontier for movie studios. Since popular franchises like Halo, Zelda or World of Warcraft, which has a movie incoming, have such large followings, they're ripe for instant fandom and large social media exposure if a studio decides to put one of these game worlds onto the big screen. Now, one of the most iconic game franchises of the last decade or so not only has a first movie trailer, but also a release date.

Revealed during the Jimmy Kimmel Live show late last night, the very first Assassin's Creed movie trailer is now available for viewing. Ubisoft, the owner of Assassin's Creed, is making this movie with the partnerships of both 20th Century Fox and Regency. Assassin's Creed stars Michael Fassbender (Inglorious Basterds, X-Men: Days of Future Past) as Callum Lynch, a man with a lineage that dates back to the Spanish Inquisition and a league of assassins, and Marion Cotillard (The Dark Knight Rises, Inception) as a lead member of the Animus project that's owned by Abstergo.

Assassin's Creed will release on December 21, 2016. If you have a moment, check out the movie trailer below:
