The OneNote for Windows 10 December update is now live for Insiders

Today, Microsoft released the December update of OneNote for Windows 10 to Windows Insiders, adding a couple of new features. Right now, it should only be available to those on the Fast ring, although it should make its way through the rings pretty quickly.

The most notable new feature is the digital ruler. This can be used to help you to draw a straight line when inking, and it can also be used to measure distance. As with the ruler in Ink Workspace, you can rotate it to a specific angle and such.

There are also improvements to the app's search functionality. It should now be faster, with search results now appearing "instantaneously, making it easier to get back to your notes."

That's all that's new for the month of December. If you're not a Windows Insider, you'll likely see this update within a couple of weeks, before the team heads off for Christmas vacation.

Finally a ruler. I was wondering when would this come into OneNote after they've showed it off in last year's creator update.

Surprising it took so long.
This widget is part of the system-provided widgets collection.

There must be something else in this build. Not significant enough to be mentioned though.

I still find it pretty hard to use compared to the desktop app.

They need to make subpages behave more like the desktop app where you can just drag a page to the right to make it a subpage.

Also if you hold mouse click to select text, in the desktop app you can use the mouswheel to scroll up/down, but in the UWP app you can only move the mouse up/down to scroll the page while selecting (and it scrolls very, very slowly)

The point of the app is not to be like the program, it is intended as a fast and more accessible app for pen usage
