It was about a month ago that OnePlus debuted its latest handset, the OnePlus 5T. Like previous handsets, the device has been popular, offering pretty good bang for buck when compared to its competitors. For the past month, the smartphone has received praise from both reviewers and consumers. The firm has also been making efforts to improve the experience by issuing updates - improving the camera, face unlock, and the fingerprint reader.
While things have been good so far, it looks like there might be a small hiccup for owners of the OnePlus 5T, that comes in the form of not being able to stream in HD from services like Netflix, Amazon, and more. The issue was brought to the attention of the OnePlus community through its forums and many have chimed in that the phone does not have the proper level of support for Google's Widevine DRM plug-in. In order to play HD content, devices need to support Level 1, with the OnePlus 5T currently only supporting Level 3. Apparently, this issue also extends to the OnePlus 5, which was released back in June.
OnePlus has acknowledged the problem and stated that a future update will enable Widevine Level 1 support. Unfortunately, it did not have a timeframe as to when this would be coming. In an age where a lot of media consumption happens on the go, it seems like a glaring oversight to not offer HD streaming capabilities on high-end handsets like the OnePlus 5T and OnePlus 5.
