The original Dead Space is returning as a remake for PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PS5

Electronic Arts is officially reviving the Dead Space franchise. Today at its EA Play Live broadcast, the company announced Dead Space as its "one more thing" item, a full remake of the massively popular horror game from 2008 originally developed by Visceral Games. Watch the short and sweet announcement trailer above, which is all in-engine footage.

While the trailer doesn't give away much, we get a glimpse of a Necromorph horror that populated the original games which is just waiting for its limbs to be severed. Isaac is also seen in his iconic engineer RIG suit as the spine health bar slowly illuminates.

Isaac's return to the new and improved USG Ishimura is being handled by Motive Studios, the developer that most recently released Star Wars: Squadrons. Powering this next-gen horror experience will be DICE's Frostbite game engine that is also under its Battlefield games.

This is how EA describes the remake and the developer's focus:

The sci-fi survival horror classic Dead Space returns, completely rebuilt from the ground up by Motive Studios to offer a deeper and more immersive experience. Harnessing the power of the Frostbite game engine and next generation consoles, this remake brings jaw-dropping visual fidelity and improvements to gameplay while staying true to the original.

Avoiding last-gen platforms entirely, Dead Space is slated to launch across PC, Xbox Series X|S, and PlayStation 5. EA did not reveal a launch window today, but there is a web portal set up for fans to sign up and wait for more details.
