The remaining episodes of American Idol are being shot on Apple's iPhone 11 Pro

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unique formats in sporting and entertainment industries. While many have switched to a temporary suspension of their current seasons, others have taken a different approach and have continued the show behind closed doors to the public.

American Idol is one such example. The show is utilizing consumer technologies in order to keep creating content. The show’s producers are sending home studio rigs to the contestants, which will help them shoot the remaining episodes of the season. Inside the kits is a three-camera setup, which includes three iPhone 11 Pros, a ring light, and a tripod. Assistance with setting up the cameras is also being provided to the contestants.

Apple has commented on the initiative, touting the iPhone for delivering 'broadcast' quality videos and stating that:

We know that people are relying on their favorite shows while staying at home, and we are happy to be a part of that process with the team at American Idol. iPhone offers a unique solution to deliver broadcast quality video, in the palm of your hand, while keeping production staff and on-air talent safe and in their homes.

The Cupertino firm is also working with other production houses and helping them shoot popular shows including a Parks and Recreation reunion, Late Night with Conan O'Brien, and The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon using the iPhones as well.

While the iPhone would most certainly not be replacing all studio equipment any time soon, the device has shown some promising results. The 4K, 60 FPS shooter on the mobile device has led to impressive videography demonstrations as well.
