This week's highlights in new game releases: October 17-23

While there are quite a few new games coming out for the PC and consoles this week, the big highlight is the third person action game Batman: Arkham City. Developer Rocksteady returns to tell another tale of DC Comics' Caped Crusader after the 2009 release of Batman: Arkham Asylum became a surprise hit with both gamers and reviewers. Early reviews for Batman: Arkham City are already solid as Batman has to deal with a cadre of his arch enemies in a walled off section of Gotham City. Look for Catwoman to also appear as a playable character in parts of the game. It's due out for the Xbox 360 and PS3 this week; PC games will have to wait until November for their version.

Playstation 3 owners get a new downloable game this week. Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One is the latest game in the series from developer Insomniac Games. It's a four player co-op themed game where players can take on the roles of one of four characters (Ratchet, Clank, Qwark and Doctor Nefarious).

Other games due out for release this week include Rocksmith (Xbox 360, PS3) a new music themed game from Ubisoft which allows people to use real guitars instead of guitar-themed controllers. PC, Xbox 360 and PS3 owners will be able to download Dungeon Defenders this week, a combo of a tower defense game with some RPG elements. PS3 and PC gamers get the multiplayer shooter Payday: The Heist after a brief delay this week. Sega releases Football Manager 2012, the latest version of its popular soccer management game, this week via the PC.
